JCR Meeting 5-12-07
Opening Prayer
Appologies for absence.
Minutes approved from the last meeting.
Last week was meeting for the NUS delegates. John’s placed the most votes so well done. DSU meeting now so going early
President
Nice to see so many from Cranmer. Busy since last meeting with accidents and went to see Pete yesterday. Family is very grateful for all the support and have reached the next stage of recovery. Have been doing college estates stratergy and had a meeting with the college architect. College council on Friday. Had an environment meeting and thanks to Stuart for all his work!
Had a meeting with Hector about code of conduct and over who owns what and who should pay for what and now looking at it, it is messier than it was before so when the next JCR come in they will know that when they buy things, they will belong to the JCR. Happy Christmas to everyone.
Ccr
Thanked JcR and JHJCR for changing to a Wednesday. Thanks to Cranmer for turning up. Pete is in our prayers. Estates is not entirely unanimous about strategy but the students are so it shows how much the collective feel has grown. Merry Christmas. No Questions. To say thank you to the staff, we are having a thank you to the staff from 12-5 tomorrow. May even be a glass of wine!
MCR
Busy time sorting accounts but should be able to sort them. Have been trying to sort academic events. Have also had lots of social events. Meant to have a theatre trip to see the people but didn’t really work. Trying to organise freshers events and went to a CRC meeting. Hannah has been to the last one. Forgot there was one today. Fairly successful term after a shaky start. No questions.
Estates
Work has started in the gym in Cruddas. Don’t leave stuff there over the holiday as it will get thrown out. Ballot for college – get applications in now and ballot will happen first week of next term. If anyone has any input about what they want in the gym, email Dan Barrat.
Welfare
Had a couple of welfare talks so thanks to Kevin Tyson and Helen and Clare who organised them and to the people who went. Liver out social at 7:30 on Friday for livers out in Margaret’s Common Room. Travel bursaries applications – get them in oson.
Services
Made £1000 in the last 4 months. Thanks to the people who have helped. Has been great, sales are doing well and Tuna and Cucumber sandwiches have reappeared. Good news for freshers in particular – Stash will arrive tomorrow morning. Will be in here at 2:30 and then will move to the JCR flat. Short notice from I-Hsein – the concert has to be cancelled as many people are on the CU House Party.
Treasurer
Budget and accounts have been happening. Any money request forms need to be in by the end of Friday as it needs to come under this years budget. That would be a problem.
Comms
Laptop been broken. Sorry for lateness.
Dell charger wanted.
Everything else fine.
Social
Thanks to everyone who came and the SEC who made it happen. 25 extra places so if you want to sign up – stay behind. Please post your cheques as college don’t subsidise it at all.
Bar
No drinking games in the bar. Accoustic night. Have 3 or 4 very talented performers so come and support.
CRC Report
Met to have a look at the constitution and the position of President. In the light of the suggestion of getting a sabbatical president. Are going to put to the JCR that we have a President and a VP for John’s Hall. Will propose this at the first meeting next term. President will do college strategy and represent college but VP will run exec and work with frep team and other teams. Will split the job. President = strategy and VP = personal touch. Come and talk to Becca if you are interested in either of these positions. Need to have gone to 2 DSU meetings if you are wanting to run for president.

HM – Probably no
Martin – will this need finance.
HM – Yes
Accepted on a general aye.
Motion – Students with Disabilities Officer
Nick Robson
Martin – would this be a JJCR Position
NR – Yes
Martin – a number of positon not filled on JCR exec and could this not be another job on welfare exec as it is already rather large.
NR – good point but as welfare is so broad in it’s scope, welfare will be the one who takes everything seriously. Welfare committee co-opts Student-to Students. Is basically only 6 people. Much more important to have this as a JCR position.
Taken on a general aye.
